7 Ways I Stay Positive Even Though Its Winter and I Hate Leaving the Office Winter the days are colder, the nights are longer, and the weather is unpredictable. It would be easy to spend December 21-March 20 cold and complaining. But instead, here are seven things I do to stay positive even though its winter.1. I embrace the season.I engage in a bit of retail therapy and buy season sensitive stuff moisturizing socks, fuzzy mittens, a bright pink sweater, hot toddies. Since it gets dark by early evening, I feel no guilt putting my pjs on as soon as I get home from work. Before or right after Christmas, my family and I drive or walk through light displays. One January, we went tubing. There are plenty of resorts that make snow for you to tube, sled, and/or ski in. I take advantage of the events unique to winter.2. I accentuate the positive.At work, I avoid coworkers who are Debby Downers. Its hard enough mustering positive energy during dreary winter days. Coworkers determine the quali ty and direction of projects, so I hang out with positive people. At home, I keep a gratitude journal and write in it every day, even if its just Im grateful for a roof over my head and that the furnace works.3. I exercise.As Elle Woods says, Exercise gives you endorphins. Endorphins make you happy. Happy people just dont shoot their husbands they just dont. So to protect the safety of the people I live with, I exercise. If I have the opportunity to get outside and do it, all the better, so I can soak up some of that limited winter sun. But when its 15 degrees outside, my treadmill works just fine. I also lift weights to keep my triceps from waving when the cold winter wind blows. Exercise keeps my weight in check, reduces my stress and increases my energy.4. I move forward.I like to take the next step in the projects Im working on. I choose to set S.M.A.R.T goals instead of New Years resolutions for work, family, and myself. I update my Linkedin profile and my resume. I think about spring projects. What flowers should I plant? What room decor should I update? Where should I go on vacation this year?5. I declutter and organize.Being stuckverzierung inside is a good time to simplify. I like to clean out my closets and take stuff that I havent worn in a year to our local Goodwill drop-off center. I have a file cabinet where I keep bills and receipts. If they are two years old, they go in the shredder. Tax documents that are eight years old go, too. This is also a good time to go through photos on my computer and phone and delete those I dont want to keep.6. I practice self care.Whether its trying a new recipe, hobby, or online class, winter is a good time to break out of my routine and find new ways to take care of myself. With the extended periods of cold and darkness keeping me inside, I warm up with bubble baths, do-it-myself mani-pedis, Netflix binges, etc. Curling up with a blanket, my dog, a cup of coffee, a book, and Def Leppard streaming is a cure for al most any stressor.7. I try to be around people.Having lunch with a friend, spending a Saturday afternoon with the parents, shopping with my husband, grabbing coffee with my daughter, volunteering with my networking group... all ansicht things help me stay connected to my community. Being around people reminds me that winter is just a season. It will not last forever.Try a few of these suggestions and before you know it, winter will be over Youve got this.

In fact, furniture hunting is a major catalyst for stress among many, many couples, all of whom probably believe they know better than their partners.According to a new survey by OnePoll and furniture company Article, every year the average couple will have around 72 disagreements about decor style, purchasing decisions, and furniture purchases. Eight of those will occur in the store itself, while 10 happen in front of a familiar audience - a family member or friend whose two cents can be used as leverage.Even at fun-filled sites such as movie theaters and amusement parks, people are not immune from arguing about their furniture choices. It seems that between roller coaster rides, those rug color swatches are still at the forefront of our minds.Some astute beings have learned how to free themselves of this common fodder for argu ments, either through solitude or reticence. 15% of Americans avoid furniture shopping alongside their partners because the visit always leaves them feeling grumpy with each other. Meanwhile, 58% dont even weigh in on shopping because theyre not gunning for a fight.But for those who havent quite mastered the art of apathy, its obvious why we care so much about the furniture we choose - we spend 216 hours researching and buying furniture for ourselves, and after that kind of time commitment, weve clearly developed strong opinions. The survey found that the most common reasons people bicker include budget, furniture styles, and color selection, amid other concerns.So if youve gotten in a blow-out fight over your homes decor, youre far from the only one. And its okay to feel strongly about where you live. The deadline to submit a paper for the special issue is July 31. Cardiovascular devices must typically interact with a complex physiologic environment that can severely challenge device performance and longevity. These challenges include blood damage such as hemolysis and thrombosis changing contact conditions during each heartbeat high-cycle fatigue-to-fracture and the need to accommodate the highly variable geometric, material, and hemodynamic environment encountered across the target population.The cardiovascular device industry increasingly relies on computer modeling as a controlled and repeatable methodology for assessing these device design-related factors. Clinicians are also evaluating computer modeling as a pre-interventional planning tool that can confirm the need for treatment and optimize treatment outcomes. This special issue of the Journal of Medical Devices is intended to be a collection of original research that highlights the use of computer models in every phase of cardiovascular device development and assessment. Papers being submitted for the special issue should employ one or more of a variety of approaches, including computational mutabel dynamics (CFD), finite element analysis (FEA), high- and low-frequency electromagnetics, reduced-order and lumped parameter approaches, multi-scale analysis, anatomic models, and statistical shape analysis (PCA). Contributions are expected to tie the work described to the design of a medical device, either by incorporating a simulated device as an example or by desc ribing how the computational tool would be used in the design of a specific medical device.Papers for the Special Journal Issue on Cardiovascular Device Development and Safety Assessment Using Computational/Experimental Approaches should be submitted by July 31 using the ASME Journals Digital Submission Site.
